Phu Ping Palace in Thailand

Phu Ping Palace

My recent trip to Thailand was great. I spent most of my time in Chaing Mai with my Mom who is a cancer survivor. I didn't take any trip but to stay home with her. She was recovering well and cancer free so far. Every moment with her was precious.
The only place I visited during my Thailand stay was Phu Ping Palace because it is in the city near by where we live, only 20 minutes away. Visitors to Chaing Mai should go visit this palace. The place has many on-location gardeners who work there full time in order to making sure the place is loaded with beautiful flowers all-year-round. If you plan to visit, prepare a light jacket for the trip because the palace is high up on the mountain and it gets cooler there.

About Phu Ping Summer Palace

To reach Phu Ping, one of the royal family's summer palaces, continue along the road beyond the Wat Doi Suthep temple. The Bangkok-style building, in colorful gardens, lies a short way up the mountain. (Visitors are admitted only when no member of the royal family is in residence, and must be suitably dressed.)

This beautiful rose plant looks more like a tree. It's huge.

I love opium poppy for its vibrant color.

Other beautiful flower beds

Magnificent walls of flowers!!!

Everybody should take picture here!!!
Look at the sample below. See how great the wall of flower is as background!!!

The palace

The Queen Sirikit Rose is a hybrid rose of Konigin der Rosen and the Golden Giant Rose. It was first introduced in 1968. Two years later it won the First Prize in a rose competition in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Andre Hendricx, Director of "Grandes Roseraiea du Val de Loire", asked permission from Queen Sirikit of Thailand to name the rose after her.

Have you ever seen a very tall banana tree? It's wild banana กล้วยป่า.

And a tiny flower

It is best to photograph opium poppy with backlight.

You can read more about opium on my archive "Hall Of Opium"

Photography tip:
For portrait, put a model in a position where you have colorful flowers in dimensional view.
Shoot from a high level to cover more ground (with flowers).

Amazingly, each one of this flower(plant) is almost as tall as me!!!

This is the most stunning garden in the palace...very vibrant...very huge.

The spirit house
A spirit house or san phra phum in Thai (Thai ศาลพระภูมิ) is a shrine to animist spirits found in the Southeast Asian countries of Cambodia, Laos, and Thailand. Most houses and businesses have a spirit house placed in an auspicious spot, most often in a corner of the property. The house is intended to provide a shelter for spirits which could cause problems for the people if not appeased. Offerings are left at the house to propitiate the spirits.

Giant bamboo!!! Wow!!!
Let's go "Crouching Tiger" over the bamboo here!!!

Unable to tell dimension from the picture, each rose is very huge, around 5"-6" in diameter.

I am not sure what we see is considered tree trunk or root.
