Thai Festival 2009 at Daley Plaza


Chicago, IL. – The Royal Thai Consulate General, the Thai American Association of Illinois, the 2009 Thai Festival Organizing Committee and Thai Community Leaders in Illinois together will host “Thai Festival 2009” at Daley Plaza located at 55 West Randolph Street, Chicago, Illinois on July 8 – July 10, 2009 from 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.

The Opening Ceremony will commence on Wednesday, July 8 at 11:45 a.m. International diplomats and elected officials have been invited to attend the Opening Ceremony, and there will be a special performance by Secretary of State Jessie White’s Tumbling Team along with a special appearance by Mr. Todd Tongdee, international renowned singer and musician who will be making a special trip from Thailand to perform at the event.


This year, the festival will showcase Thai silk fashion shows from different periods, cultural performances, Muay Thai Kickboxing and much more. In addition to the festival’s program, workshops will be held from 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. on all three days and will include demonstrations of Thai fruit carving, Thai painting, Thai classical music, and Thai games presented by children. Thai massage will be on site along with food vendors offering delicious Thai cuisine, fresh tropical Thai fruits and a Thai gallery that will exhibit beautiful handcrafted pieces that will lend additional color to the week’s festivities.


Food and drink vendors will include: Duck Walk; Star of Siam; My Thai; Manee Thai; Amarit; Tiparos; Thai Pavilion; Singha Beer. Merchandise vendors will include: Kit Enterprise; Black Thai; Makomo; Temple Bell; Paper Origin; V.W. Too Cute; Lily’s Window. Also, the Office of the Royal Thai Consulate-General, Chicago, the Thai Trade Center Chicago and the Tourism Authority of Thailand form New York will be on site to answer any questions to visitors regarding Thailand.


In cooperation with Mayor Daley’s Office of Special Events and the City of Chicago, the festival’s sponsors include: The Office of the Royal Thai Consulate General, Chicago, the Office of Secretary of State Jessie White, the Thai American Association of Illinois, the 2009 Thai Festival Organizing Committee, Singha Beer, Thai Trade Center Chicago, Thai Tourism Authority of New York, and the Thai Cultural Council of Illinois.
