CHICAGO (March 24, 2009)—Saturday, an Asian American group named “Asians 4 Chicago 2016” pledged their support for Chicago’s bid for the 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The group hosted an Asian American community rally at Lane Technical College Prep High School on Chicago’s near North Side. Nearly 2,000 people attended the event which featured live cultural performances from various Asian communities in the city. Chicago 2016 bid representatives were in attendance Mayor Daley rallies with Chicago's Asian-Americans to accept the presentation of a signed Resolution of Support from Chicago’s Asian American community, and speak to the group about Chicago’s bid.


“The local Asian American support of our bid is extraordinary and we are thrilled about the rally and the Resolution of Support,” said Chicago 2016 Chairman and CEO Patrick G. Ryan. “The community’s support is an important component of our efforts to host the Games, and we are grateful for what they have done and continue to do to help bring the Games to Chicago. Chicago is a truly international city, and events such as this one showcase the cultural diversity of our city.”


“Asians 4 Chicago 2016” represents people from many Asian countries, including Bangladesh, Burma, Cambodia, China, the Philippines, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Laos, Malaysia, Nepal, Pakistan, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.

Chicago 2016 is a non-profit organization funded 100% by private donors dedicated initiatives that promotes and supports Chicago to be the Olympic City in 2016.
